This paper describes torque characteristics of the interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) using the inexpensive ferrite magnets. IPMSM model used in this study has the spoke and the axial type magnets in the rotor, and torque characteristics are analyzed by the three-dimensional finite element method (3D-FEM). As a result, torque characteristics can be improved by using both the spoke type magnets and the axial type magnets in the rotor.
