Zero Overvoltage Switching (ZOS) can be used for clean switching transitions without overvoltage oscillations and unlimited switching speed, leading to the elimination of switching losses. This paper details the adjustment possibilities to implement the ZOS phenomenon in future high-performance power electronics. Various factors must be considered for developing ZOS-tailored power electronics. A new approach is presented, where external circuitry can adjust the ZOS operating points to reach desired power levels. The options for tuning the ZOS operating points are presented and demonstrated by measurements on a prototype. Also, two operating modes are proposed depending on the chosen ZOS-specific design.
