Passive intermodulation products, which are generated by non-linear phenomena in parts exposed to RF fields, are a serious threat to the operation of satellite payloads. The paper illustrates how electromagnetic modeling can be used to overcome these problems by producing the information required by the design engineers to select the most appropriate solution to keep the interferences generated by various part of the satellite well below the noisefloor of the receivers.
