In this paper, an affordable low specification 16-bit photon counting system has been prototyped. This is to overcome the high cost equipments which are design for broad applications., This system is developed specifically for the measurement of spectral delayed luminescence of saliva and is able to communicate with PC through USB port. Schematics of the systems are described in detail followed by the flow chart of the developed microcontroller firmware and PC software. Towards the end, a saliva sample on filter paper is illuminated briefly with white LED and has its single and spectral delayed luminescence recorded and graphed.
