The National Cardiovascular Information System (NCIS) is described as a series of integrated cardiology care registers designed to collect data on the clinical care of patients with cardiac disease in acute hospitals in Ireland. The aim of this paper is to provide information on the National Cardiovascular Information System (NCIS), including the background to the development of the system and to outline the proposals for the future development of the system.
