This paper considers an IoT communication network based on an energy-harvesting (EH) node that harvests energy from the ambiance using buffers with the harvest-store-use (HSU) architecture. To better ensure communication quality and utilize energy more efficiently, we propose a dynamic modulation strategy to select appropriate modulation methods based on channel power and energy stored in the buffer. An algorithm based on the state transition matrix (STM) is proposed to obtain the probability distribution of the stored energy in the buffer. Numerous experiments have been performed to obtain the network outage probability and throughput.
