Under the guidance of"Double carbon" target, Gansu province is faced with the dilemma of insufficient capacity of new energy absorption and peak shaving. Based on the analysis of the energy storage methods for the new energy sources, it is proposed that the deployment of certain scale pumped-storage hydroelectricity and new electrochemical energy storage will play an important role in enhancing the peak shaving capacity and new efficient energy use of the Gansu power grid. Combined with the planning of the balance between the electric power and peak-shaving capacity of Gansu power grid, the calculation results show that the size of pumped storage construction in Gansu province is about 3200-4400MW by 2030. Therefore, it is necessary to incorporate pumped storage and electrochemical storage into flexible power grid regulation strategies when selecting new energy sources and peak-load regulation power sources in Gansu province.
