Grid resilience is critical to modern society. With the global energy transition, renewable resources are fast growing in the energy mix. Renewable resources are highly volatile and intermittent and also closely correlated with weather conditions. Ensuring grid resilience under high renewable penetration is becoming more challenging and pressing. PJM has been working on creating a more resilient system from the perspectives of operations, infrastructure planning, market, cyber and physical security. This paper describes a PJM approach to evaluate and analyze the impact of high renewable penetration on grid resilience, formulate plans to be prepared for such impact, and use market mechanisms to improve grid resilience.
