The ISDB-S3 system used for 4K/8K (UHDTV) satellite broadcasting in Japan can transmit at about 100 Mbps. This system has several combinations of modulation schemes and error correction coding rates. We designed and fabricated a compact planar receiving antenna for low C/N ratio reception of 12-GHz-band satellite broadcasting that is adjustment-free in the elevation angle. Investigation of the link budget for satellite broadcasting using the antenna showed that it can attain an information bitrate of 10.9 Mbps. The received C/N ratio in a field test at the maximum receiving antenna gain was 2.1 dB.
