Energy storage system (ESS) is the most promising flexible resource for renewable accommodation for the power systems with high penetration of renewable generation. There are a variety of ESS technologies with quite different technical and economic characteristics. Technology decisions of system planner and police-maker should be drawn based on rigorous quantitative analysis. A method of economic and technical comparison of energy storage technologies for renewable accommodation is proposed and a chronological production simulation with optimal scheduling of ESS is modeled for quantifying amount of renewable curtailment. In the case study, 4 types of ESS technologies with their typical parameters are applied in the power system. The results shows that PHS has the best comprehensive performance for renewable accommodation.
