A novel compact and lightweight C-band transit-time oscillator with low magnetic field is proposed in this paper. Besides, a novel cathode with soft magnetic material and focusing electrode and opening foils are loaded to improve the conversion efficiency of this device. Simulation and experimental research is carried out to prove that the device can operate with a low magnetic field of 0.3 T while keeping the advantage of miniaturization. Finally, experimental research shows that when loading the novel cathode and the opening foils, the device can work with a low magnetic field and generate a GW -level microwave output with a conversion efficiency of about 28%.
