This paper is focusing on the impact of introducing a generation mixture of PV solar and Wind farms power plants into the power system of the Kingdom of Saud Arabia (KSA hereafter). Three main aspects related to the first step of integration of RES into the system of KSA have been considered in the study: the impact on the operation of the system, in terms of reserve capacity allocation and unit dispatching, the impact on the static and dynamic security of the network and the economic impact in terms of Levelized Cost of Electricity (LCOE) associated to RES and the saving in the operating costs of the system.
