This paper proposes a novel method to achieve decoupling of dual-port single-radiating patch antennas based on characteristic mode analysis. By etching slots and loading metallized vias, the TM 10 mode and TM 11 mode are reshaped into a pair of odd and even modes that have the same resonant frequency and can cancel each other. Finally, the proposed decoupled dual-port single-radiating patch antenna has an impedance bandwidth of 4.81-4.96 GHz, an isolation greater than 15 dB and a gain of 5.26-5.6 dBi within the operating bandwidth.
