Since laying cables to transmit renewable energy is costly for some groups of pelagic isles, plans for transmitting renewable energy using maritime energy transportation have been proposed in the literature. Previous works in the literature use conventional vessels with diesel generators to transport energy. However, the carbon emissions of conventional vessels for maritime transportation are large. To reduce carbon emissions, this paper proposes a day-ahead scheduling strategy for maritime energy transportation using hybrid vessels, where both solar panels and diesel generators are installed. To tackle the uncertainties of the generation power prediction of the solar panels, the scenario tree generation and branch-cutting methods are adopted. The case study results show that by utilizing the scheduling strategy proposed in this paper, the energy demands are met, and the carbon emissions can be minimized.
