Many industrial plants rely on adjustable speed drives (ASD) for critical applications. However, most are susceptible to power disturbances, especially voltage sags and momentary interruptions. ASD tripping in process industries can be very costly due to loss of product as well as production down time. This paper presents a 100 kW, 5-second ride-through system (RTS) for ASDs using ultracapacitors for energy storage.
