NFPA 70E requires electrical systems to be properly maintained to be considered safe. Good maintenance practice requires electrical systems to be maintained for reliability. NFPA 70B and others provide guidance on timelines and workscopes. But, how does one develop an electrical maintenance plan if there isn't one? Has the same plan been executed the same way it's always been done, even though it feels like there is room for improvement? How can the existing plan be improved and optimized? This can be a daunting task, even to an experienced person. This paper will review some of the methodology used to develop and improve the electrical maintenance plan for a pulp and paper manufacturing facility.
