In this paper, a simple, practical, and low-cost integration of a metal-frame-based 5G FR1 microwave (mcw) and a thin FPC-based 5G FR2 millimeter-wave (mmw) antenna module in a mobile phone is proposed. Through this integrated antenna design, the internal space utilization of phones can be enhanced, small clearance gaps can be enabled, and higher mcw antenna performance can be achieved so that competitiveness of mobile phones can be significantly and elegantly upgraded. The proposed integrated antenna can cover multiple 3GPP 5G bands, such as, n7, n38, n41, n71, and n261, providing a promising and compelling antenna solution for 5G mobile phones.
