This paper presents a power-efficient design of a laser scanner featuring flexible printed circuit boards. We chose a flexible printed circuit board as the material because of its foldable and precision-manufactured properties. In addition to these properties, we can use copper pours to make high rigidity linkages, and drilling to make low rigidity hinges. Taking the advantage above, a power-efficient laser scanner with an integrated coil on the mechanism is designed. It overcomes the shortcomings of paper-based laser scanners, MEMS laser scanners, and previous flexible printed circuit board-based laser scanners. The prototype design reaches a laser scanning range of 44.96° by applying a 0.4 V amplitude voltage at a resonant frequency of 82 Hz.
