This paper provides a timely study report of FDT and AutomationML Collaboration. AutomationML is on the shortlist of several IIoT standards. It contains several parts related to describe different aspects for in the design process of a plant. The information related to FDT are the description of the system topology and the communication relations within such a topology. The output of a CAE tool is provided in the AML format and imported into a FDT application. A common working group between FDT Group and AutomationML association will first analyze the current possibilities of AutomationML to improve the engineering process for FDT applications. With this the combination of standards like FDT and AutomationML a further step to Industrie4.0/IIoT can be achieved.
