For pt. I, see ibid., p.581-3 (1990). An outline for the design of a non-invasive arterial pressure measurement system, for use with a rabbit model of AR/MR induced left-heart failure, is presented. The hardware and software are described. The device, which is built around a microcontroller, is the distillation of a PC-based system presented earlier. The architectural differences between microcomputers and microcontrollers, which can affect the porting of a computer-based design to one involving a controller, are highlighted, and the impact of these differences on the design synthesis is discussed.ETX
