The current study aims to understand the work-family conciliation experience in a group of women in management positions from private companies in the city of Medellín. This qualitative study was based on in-depth interviews. It was found work-family conciliation is influenced by working hours, work responsibilities, stress, family problems and overall responsibilities. Besides, work invades family life and finding a balance is difficult, even though participants use strategies such as organization, planning and a good attitude to separate work from family and to manage their time. Also, passion for work seems to mitigate the work stress that influences family. While work flexibility and personal goals facilitate conciliation, the lack of employer’s support and the workload impede it. In general, female leadership is useful in an organization; however, the demands of management positions impede women from spending time with their family, have quality relationships and fulfill family responsibilities. Therefore, it is necessary for companies to promote policies that make possible conciliation between work and family
