The paper is a reflection and analysis of action research as an alternative of qualitative and socio-critic paradigm by presenting the corresponding theoretical account and its role in educational environment. It highlights not only the comprehension and interpretation but transformation of the teaching practice under study. The need of studying and researching the teaching process from the perspective of the teacher performance is portrayed as a primary way of improving teaching practice.
