This chapter is concerned with the families' satisfaction with the area they were living in at age 5 and the moves that had been made to get there, from diverse social and spatial starting points. It focuses on the place the cohort family has been living and changes in it if they moved home. It relates residential mobility to factors such as type of housing and neighbourhood. It also looks at families' perception of their neighbourhood in terms of whether the respondent feels the family lives in a good area for raising children and how safe they feel the area is. It investigates whether these perceptions are related to subsequent mobility and whether neighbourhood ratings at age 5 are related to disadvantaged family circumstances including housing tenure at younger ages.
