In our dynamic global markets, an optimal configuration of global production networks can lead to significant competitive advantages. Thus, managers face the challenge to consider a multitude of influence factors and interdependencies when designing production networks. In this contribution, we explain how a digital twin can support managerial decision-making processes in this context. The twin’s scalable data model describes highly complex networks in their full comprehensiveness and allows scenario simulation. Moreover, its visualization facilitates communication and easier decision-making.
