The purpose of the study is to gain understanding and insight into the cultural experience of perceived expectations for Division I football players in higher education. To examine this purpose, the researcher selected a phenomenological qualitative method to gain an essence of the student athlete experience in higher education. Three themes were derived from the data and are presented as (1) Exceptional Expectations, (2) The Campus Mood, and (3) Fanatics and External Expectations.
