In May 2019, Cotswold Archaeology (CA) was commissioned by Alun Griffiths (Rail Division) to undertake the second phase of Historic Building Recording of the Pill Box at Gypsy Patch Lane, Stoke Gifford, South Gloucestershire. This followed as a condition of an application for the demolition of the Gypsy Patch Lane Pill Box and the construction of a new railway bridge to provide a widened carriageway, footways and cycle lanes at Gipsy Patch Lane was approved (Application Number PT18/0986/F). The Gypsy Patch Lane Pill Box is an example of a non-standard type 26 pillbox with several local adaptations to the standard design and with iron embrasure frames remaining extant. Its degree of survival is considerable, with the interior and exterior elevations retaining a good degree of preservation and repair. A few instances of vandalism have impacted on the appearance of the interior elevations but with no visibly discernible structural effects. None of the internal fixtures remain.
