This dissertation is a case study on the development of two cross-cultural plays for young audiences and the process of production with the Lubbock Community Theatre in conjunction with the Texas Tech University School of Theatre and Dance. In the process of writing Why Does the Lion Dance? and The Great Rat Race! I developed a rubric for writing cross-culturally. The guidelines that make up the rubric are based partly upon Aristotle’s framework and upon what I learned from other playwrights and through my own needs as I wrote the plays and worked on productions and workshops of those same plays.
