No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertação - Pablo Rodrigo de Andrade Barbosa (1).pdf: 1254689 bytes, checksum: 1a20c10a064c0f1d05c6de9fff829187 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2022-06-23 The present dissertation analyzes the relationship between the denial of the right to the city and the stigmas placed on gypsy communities that end up producing anti-gypsyism. And how this anti-gypsyism directly affects the life of a gypsy community in the Fragata neighborhood, in the city of Pelotas-RS. The area has been produced through a logic where each city is seen as a capital, this logic creates a segregated city, where the objective is an “ideal” city, an “image city”. This image-city demands that citizens live by a standard, that is, working, sleeping, eating, living are done in the light of this image-city, this ends up creating a subjective aspect of the city, where people who do not fit modus operandi end up being stigmatized. Since the first persecution of the same gypsies in Europe they are persecuted, victims of violence, in addition to causes without apparent, this because they are different. The same thing happened in Brazil, they were stigmatized as thieves, vagabonds, robbed, and ended up being expelled from several cities in the country. Stigma, this mark that gypsies carry for not living in the same way, ends up producing anti-gypsyism, which is directly related to the subjective created by the city-image. The pride they have in being gypsies is eventually denied them when they have to lie that they are not gypsies for their work. In this way, the objective of this dissertation is to problematize this whole relationship between city and anti-gypsyism and how it affected the lives of these gypsies in the Fragata neighborhood. The results, obtained through theoretical and field research, showed above all the influence of the city-image in the production of anti-life made by each gypsy, which gypsies fear from gypsy culture if and evade with the passage of time.
