Nine new Br and I ion laser lines in the visible and the UV regions were observed by ordinary longitudinal pulsed discharge or coaxial pulsed discharge. This is the first time that the UV I ion laser was obtained with an output much stronger than that of ordinary pulsed ion lasers. The characteristics of the laser output were investigated in the case of coaxial discharge.
