Summary There are several recognized indications for the use of vitamin K anticoagulants. However, it is not devoid of complications particularly with the narrow therapeutic index. Hemorrhagic complications usually appear in the genitourinary, gastrointestinal, retroperitoneal and intracranial areas, with few reports involving the oral cavity. Early recognition, prompt medical treatment and continuous monitoring are essential due to its life-threatening aspect. Immediate reversal of anticoagulation therapy is necessary since it may prevent the need for a surgical airway procedure.
