SINCE T H E ADVENT of combined endodontic-periodon tic therapy for the successful management of multi rooted teeth exhibiting furcation involvement predicated upon the presence of accessory canals, there has evoked a tendency toward misdiagnosis of periodontal vs. pulpal lesions to the chagrin of those who recognize that hemisections and root amputations are often perperformed needlessly. Accurate differentiation elimi nates unnecessary treatment, and resection procedures often become unwarranted with the diagnosis of acute disease alterations that are reversible and regenerative.
