The article recalls the cricket days of Yorkshireman Bill Bowes with his friend and bowling partner Hedley Verity. The deceptiveness of Bowes as a bowler was accentuated by the downfall of batsman Don Bradman. He showed his dedication as a cricketer and has been fanatical about cricket from his boyhood. His cricket career progressed from his scholarship at West Leeds High School in England to Kirkstall Educational in the Yorkshire Council, and to the Marylebone Cricket club. Bowes and Verity's tactical acumens were evident during the Lord's Test.
