The article discusses the results of a randomized placebo-controlled chemopreventive trial on the effect of difluoromethylornithine (DFMO) on decreasing prostate size and polyamines in men. It discusses the methods used in the study which include the assessment of biomarkers such as total and free prostate-specific antigen (PSA) and prostate-specific antigen doubling time. Based on the trial, DFMO induced a decrease of prostate putrescine levels and rate of prostate growth.
