The article presents the author's reflections on the autonomy of higher education in Paraguay and its constitutional development. The author considers what autonomy, in its academic, institutional and economic aspects, means in the context of the relationship between higher education and state and analyzes its codification in Article 79 of the Paraguayan Constitution and in Law 136/93 (known as the "Ley de Universidades," or, in English, University Law). He also reflects on the constitutional limits placed on the autonomy of higher education in Paraguay.
