The article discusses the benefits of dynamic v. static warm up techniques to prepare for training or competition. Tests showed that dynamic stretching exercises are better than static ones for enhancing sports performance. Other tests showed that static exercises should be kept within warm ups for flexibility but basic running type exercises are adequate for track and field sports. Football authorities recommend ten exercises for injury prevention, stability, balance and agility. The author concludes warm ups should be sports appropriate.
