This article examines the religious rhetoric among revolutionaries in the Upper Canada Rebellion of 1837 in several regions of the Canadian colonies. Topics include the call to arms appeal by radical journalist William Lyon Mackenzie against abuses of executive power; rebellion led directly by Mackenzie at Montgomery's Tavern on Yonge Street north of Toronto, Ontario; Christianity's role in Canadian radical politics; and recruitment for the rebellion by the Protestant dissenters.
