The site of Sepphoris, Israel has great historical and archaeological significance. Recent excavations conducted by the University of South Florida and Duke University recovered several thousand glass sherds, dating to a 1500 year time span. There is especially strong evidence to suggest that glass vessels were manufactured at Sepphoris during the Byzantine I period (ad363–451) and possibly before and after this time as well.
