Isolation and characterization of hydroformylation ‘intermediates’ from stoichiometric reactions between phosphinoalkenes and some heterobinuclear complexes

Some heterobimetallic acyl and -acyl-rhodium complexes have been isolated from reactions of the phosphido-bridged complexes (OC)4M(-PPh2)2RhH(CO)(PPh3 ) with the phosphinoalkenes Ph2P(CH2)nCH&z.dbd;CH2 where M = Cr, Mo or W and n = 1–3. Several of the complexes have been fully characterized and their potential role as intermediates in the catalytic hydroformylation of the parent phosphines investigated and discussed.
