The article discusses the considerations regarding the use of flexion/extension Half Fourier Acquisition Single Shot Turbo Spin Echo (HASTE) sequences. It notes that flexion/extension radiography is considered as the most widely used method of diagnosing segmental lumbar spine instability. However, there has been emerging problems with regards to the method. It further stresses that radiographic images are prone to magnification, rotation, and alignment artefacts which can lessen the accuracy of any measurements that were taken to calculate the amount of rotation or dorsoventral translation between the adjacent vertebrae.
