The article explores the COVID-19 pandemic can be considered a defining moment in the history of digital health. Although information and communication technologies have been gradually introduced into healthcare systems over the last decade, it is only the developments during the recent global pandemic that have facilitated – and in many cases, forced – the rapid adoption of diverse innovations by governments and healthcare organizations in their efforts to curb the spread of infection.
