This article discusses the management of perceptions of corporate social responsibility (CSR). The difficulty of measuring the financial effects of CSR practices is framed in terms of the complicated stakeholder reactions to CSR programs. A correlation between corporate philanthropy and individual awareness of CSR is hypothesized. This connection is thought to be even stronger in cases where a corporate foundation has been established to insulate corporate social responsibility from conflicts of interest. The study establishes a connection between corporate philanthropy and the reputation of corporations.
