In this article, four business management experts address the problems raised in a fictional case study included in the issue. All four experts are of the opinion that the president of the parent corporation should not be focussing on the role of the head of the subsidiary as much as he is. Rather, he and the CEO need to work out the business strategy governing the entire corporate group. In addition he needs to focus on the health of individual subsidiaries and allow them the money to innovate and grow. Those providing the expert opinions are Michael Goold of the Ashridge Strategic Management Center, Orit Gadiesh chairman of Bain & Company, David J. Collis, associate professor, Harvard Business School and Jane Warner of the Randall Textron Corporation.
