The article focuses on the use of advanced photogrammetric technique in processing mass unconventional aerial images for fast response under a first-time critical situation of the Wenchuan earthquake in Sichuan Sheng, China. It stresses the viability of the Digital Photogrammetric Grid (DPGrid), a fast processing system developed by the Wuhan University for parallel processing of aerospace images. It outlines the irreplaceable role of the photogrammetric technology in providing timely information for earthquake rescue activities. Moreover, it cites several characteristics identified in the first response aerial flights carried out by the China Aero Geophysical Survey & Remote Sensing Center for Land and Resources (AGRS).
