The article discusses the importance of pre-surgical imaging to identify extent of tumour within the liver and presence of any extrahepatic disease for accurate staging and localization to improve survival of patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer to 30% at 5 years. Topics discussed include the complete resection of the metastases as the standard treatment of hepatic metastases in patient with colorectal carcinoma and the tumour nodes metastasis (TNM) staging system for colorectal cancer.
