This article presents information on a computer software, "Autoroute Plus," which is an electronic road atlas. The package runs on IBM compatible machines but needs at least 512 Kb of RAM and a hard disk with at least 1.5 Mbytes free. The author says he would recommend that it should at least be an AT type 286 machine purely for speed of operation. More RAM and hard disk will be needed if all the options available are bought and utilized. The screen needs to have graphic capabilities but can be either mono or color. Obviously color is better as the roads chosen and displayed show up in different colors. In addition a printer with graphic capabilities is required as maps can be produced. Types of printers supported run from the ubiquitous Epson FX8O through to some of the latest lasers. Having said that, the graphic capability can be shut off through the configuration and printer options so if they are not available everything else will still work. This type of need is evident say where a daisy wheel printer is all that is available. Having said that it would appear that most hardware purchased these days demonstrate the software's requirements.
