This article focuses on the organization Institute of Management Services' 17th annual Summer School which held at St. Johns College in Cambridge, England. The Summer School was opened with a plenary session addressed by Wouter Wilton, the deputy head of External Relations for the European Commission. He epitomized the very essence of the true all round European, speaking seven languages in addition to his native Dutch. His theme was "The Common Market - Continental Perspective." In this lucid, informative and often amusing talk, he presented the views of our European neighbors from the other side of the Channel and how they view 1992 and the single market. His remarks about market leadership and co-operation might have been even more interesting if he had made his address after the "Ridley Affair." He stated that most Europeans when dealing across borders, negotiate in English as neither wants the other to gain the upper hand through being able to use their native tongue.
