Formally, vocational themes have been studied in psychological literature for years; however, there appears to be little research on the connection between psychological literature and popular Christian understanding and practice of vocational discernment. The purpose of the present study was to qualitatively explore major themes of Christian literatures and compare those with empirically validated major theories of vocational psychology. The authors read five popular Christian books selected on four criteria: the book (1) is presented as a practical, "how to" guide, (2) is directed toward young adults in their twenties, (3) has vocational discernment as a core theme, and (4) is written from an explicitly Christian perspective. Themes from these books were analyzed with a human-coded inductive qualitative content analysis process. Several comparable and unique themes emerged from the qualitative analysis.
