This study proposes a new strategy of extracting parameters for tapped delay line (TDL) channel models from vehicle to infrastructure channel measurements. The proposed approach is based on an already existing method to derive parameters for a non‐stationary model using first‐order Markov chains. It will be shown that with the proposed method, the number of taps necessary to regenerate the delay spread of a channel can be significantly reduced. An approach will be discussed to evaluate the performance of the model. The feasibility of the method will be confirmed using channel sounding measurements. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
