The article focuses on booklists and library development. Information is provided on lists of award-winning books and bestseller lists, which are two examples of a traditional booklist. The purpose of a booklist is to influence a reader on what to read. Particular attention is given to the controversial aspects of booklists. A historical analysis of library policies in regard to book collections in the U.S. is provided. The article also discusses the disagreements which exist in regard to which books belong in booklists.
