This article discusses the development of a transgenic rice line that is resistant to four devastating rice viruses. Traditional breeding for viral resistance in rice is challenging due to the lack of natural resistance sources. The researchers used RNA interference (RNAi) technology to generate transgenic rice plants that express a hairpin RNA construct targeting the viral genomes.
